Samajwadi Party Demands NSG Security for Akhilesh Yadav After Crowded Prayagraj Incident. Appeal Made to Rahul Gandhi to Raise the Issue in Parliament.
UP Politics: Uttar Pradesh politics has once again heated up, with the Samajwadi Party (SP) raising serious concerns about the security of its chief and former Chief Minister, Akhilesh Yadav. A recent video surfaced showing Yadav struggling to reach his vehicle amidst a large crowd during a visit to Prayagraj. Following this incident, SP leaders have expressed concerns about his safety and are demanding the restoration of NSG security.
Seeking Congress' Support
SP leader and former minister, IP Singh, appealed on X (formerly Twitter) to Rahul Gandhi to raise this matter in Parliament and demand the Home Ministry reinstate NSG security for Akhilesh Yadav. He also suggested that the provision of high-level security to minor BJP leaders, while simultaneously reducing protection for prominent opposition figures, could be a “conspiracy.”
'Akhilesh's Difficulty Reaching His Vehicle is Unacceptable'
In his post, IP Singh questioned whether such large crowds gather for any BJP leader. He stated, “If one of the country's most popular leaders is having difficulty reaching his own vehicle, it is a matter of concern. This is not just a security issue, but also a matter of responsibility for the democratic system.”
BJP's Counterattack
The BJP responded sharply to the issue. Party spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi claimed that the threat to Akhilesh Yadav comes from within his own party. He sarcastically remarked, "He who plants a babul tree, cannot expect mangoes." He accused the Samajwadi Party of always providing patronage to "goondas, mafia, and anarchic elements," and that the current situation is a consequence of this.
Politics Reignited Over NSG Security
Other Samajwadi Party leaders, including spokesperson Fakhrul Hasan Chand and secretary Avlesh Singh, had previously demanded NSG security. The party is now preparing to make this a national issue, hoping Rahul Gandhi will raise it in Parliament. Party workers argue that Akhilesh Yadav's growing popularity warrants Z+ or NSG-level security.
