Atishi criticizes BJP over slum demolitions and private school fee bill; claims Kejriwal's leadership would have prevented slum demolitions. Aam Aadmi Party has launched a public consultation on the fee bill.
New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has targeted the BJP government in Delhi over the issue of arbitrary fee hikes by private schools. Atishi, a senior AAP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly, emphasized the need for stringent laws against private schools. She stated that the BJP government lacks seriousness on this issue and appears to be siding with the schools.
AAP recently launched an email ID [fee.consultation.aap@gmail.com] to gather public suggestions for the proposed Private School Fee Regulation Bill, aiming to tailor it to the public's needs. According to Atishi, thousands have responded via email, and party MLAs are also meeting parents on the ground.
Parents Express Discontent
On Wednesday, Atishi met with several parents whose children attend private schools. She highlighted that the BJP government drafted the bill without public consultation, violating democratic processes. Parents expressed their dissatisfaction at the lack of consultation and the perceived impunity granted to schools.
“Mistake to vote for BJP”—Attack on Slum Demolitions
Atishi launched a b attack on the BJP government following the recent demolition of slums in the Madrassi Camp of Delhi's Jangpura Assembly constituency. She visited the affected slum dwellers and demanded justice for them.
Atishi stated, “The BJP promised ‘houses where slums stand’ and garnered votes, but now they are using bulldozers on those very homes. When I reached Madrassi Camp, the elderly, women, and children were extremely distressed. They said they made a huge mistake by voting for the BJP. If Kejriwal were the Chief Minister, their slums would never have been demolished.”
Highlighting AAP's Policies in Power
Atishi compared AAP's policies with those of the BJP, saying, “The Kejriwal government always ensured justice for slum dwellers. We provided flats on DDA land and houses where slums existed. But the BJP government only made promises and has now left these people on the streets.”
Politics Behind the Fee Regulation Bill?
Atishi accused the BJP government of favoring private schools. She alleged that the fee regulation bill is a ploy to mislead the public. She insisted that if the government is sincere, it should engage in public dialogue before enacting legislation.
