Last Thursday, senior Congress leaders held a crucial meeting with Assam's veteran leaders to strategize on defeating the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming state assembly elections.

Guwahati: Congress has intensified its preparations for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections. Last Thursday, senior Congress leaders held an important meeting with senior Assam leaders to discuss strategies for defeating the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The meeting was attended by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, former President Rahul Gandhi, state Congress president Bhupen Bora, Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi, and several other important leaders.

Rahul Gandhi's Key Statement: 'Assam's People Will Reject Politics of Hate'

After the meeting, Rahul Gandhi stated, "The people of Assam have decided to reject the politics of hate. Congress believes in the politics of love and development, and we are confident that the people will stand by us this time." He further added that the BJP government has completely failed to address the problems of the people of Assam.

'BJP Government is Selling Assam'

Jitendra Singh, Assam Congress in-charge, alleged, "The BJP government is selling Assam. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma is running a mafia raj in the state and spreading corruption. The people of Assam are extremely upset and want a change." He said that the senior Congress leadership will soon tour Assam and hold large-scale public meetings.

'Will Oust BJP': Bhupen Bora

State Congress president Bhupen Bora said during the meeting, "We are determined to unitedly oust the BJP government from Assam in the upcoming elections. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma is one of the most corrupt leaders in the country, and we have given evidence of his corruption to the party's top leadership. Now we will present this evidence to the people and inform them how the BJP government is looting Assam's resources."

Congress-BJP's Offensive-Counteroffensive Before Elections

As the Assam Assembly elections draw closer, the allegations and counter-allegations between Congress and BJP have intensified. While Congress is accusing Chief Minister Sharma of corruption, BJP recently levelled sensational allegations against Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi's wife, claiming links with Pakistan and its intelligence agency, ISI. Gogoi dismissed these allegations as "ridiculous," stating that they reflect BJP's anxieties.

Focus Shifts to Kerala; Congress Leadership to Hold Meeting

After Assam, the Congress leadership will meet with the party's leaders in Kerala on Friday. This meeting is significant given the reported differences between Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and the party leadership. Tharoor recently praised the Left government's investment climate in Kerala, causing discontent among some state Congress leaders.

Assembly elections in Assam and Kerala are scheduled for March-April next year. Congress is making all-out efforts to strengthen its position in these two states. Senior party leaders believe that with the right strategy, BJP can be defeated in Assam, and the party's position can be strengthened in Kerala.
