110 Air Raid Sirens to be Installed in Delhi Amidst Rising India-Pakistan Tensions.
India Pakistan Conflict: Due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, 110 air raid sirens will be installed in Delhi as a precautionary security measure. This step has been taken in anticipation of potential air strikes. These sirens will have a range of 10 kilometers, ensuring rapid alert to the capital's citizens.
Siren Deployment Across Delhi's Districts
Delhi has 11 districts, and in each district, 10 elevated locations have been identified for the installation of these air raid sirens. These locations have been pinpointed by the Public Works Department (PWD), and the sirens will alert citizens to any emergency situation. These sirens will be activated in the event of an air raid, prompting immediate safety measures.
Simultaneously with the siren activation, a blackout will commence, plunging the area into darkness, allowing citizens to reach safety.
Testing Siren Sound During Mock Drills
As part of the security preparations, mock drills were conducted across Delhi's districts under the Ministry of Home Affairs' instructions. However, the sirens used during the drills had a range of only one hundred meters, insufficient for a real emergency. The SDM's car horns were also used, but their effectiveness was similarly limited.
Therefore, the administration ensured that only high-powered sirens are now being installed to guarantee immediate notification to everyone in every area.
Administrative Preparations and Control Rooms
The administration has strengthened its preparedness by establishing control rooms in each district. These control rooms will maintain a list of all siren locations, along with the contact details of their respective supervisors.
Upon receiving any input regarding an air strike from the military, these control rooms will immediately take action, activating the sirens and initiating the blackout procedure.
Special Preparations in Delhi's East District
Delhi's East District has further bolstered its security arrangements. Sirens have been installed at prominent, elevated locations, including V3S Mall, New Ashok Nagar Metro Station, Patparganj Max Hospital, Akshardham Temple, Jagatpuri Police Station, and the Nand Nagri District Magistrate's office. Furthermore, the North-East district has added five more sirens using its own funds.
