Delhi Government Appoints Nodal Officers to Tackle Summer Water Crisis

Summer Action Plan: The Delhi government has taken concrete steps to address the water crisis during the summer months. Water Minister Pravesh Verma announced the appointment of a nodal officer from the Jal Board in each assembly constituency. These officers will monitor the water supply situation and report directly to the minister. This will ensure swift resolution of water supply complaints and provide relief to the public.

Emphasis on Water Supply Quality and Distribution

In many areas of Delhi where water levels are adequate, the availability of water will be increased by installing tubewells. The number of tankers and their trips will be increased as needed. GPS systems will be installed in all tankers to monitor them and make water distribution more effective.

Key Decisions Taken in Meeting with MLAs

Water Minister Pravesh Verma held a meeting with MLAs and Jal Board officials to discuss the water crisis. MLAs raised concerns about water shortages and sewer overflows in their respective constituencies. In response, the minister instructed that a nodal officer be deployed in each assembly constituency to improve coordination and ensure immediate resolution of problems.

Water Supply to be Ensured According to Population

A new policy is being implemented to prevent unequal distribution of water supply. Water distribution will now be based on the population of each area to ensure that no area faces water scarcity. While the previous government provided excessive water supply to some areas, this time it will be ensured that all areas receive water equitably.

Steps Taken for Water Conservation

To prevent water wastage, the Delhi government is also focusing on laying new pipelines. Currently, water comes from the Munak canal through unlined canals, resulting in significant water loss. To address this, the budget includes a plan to bring water through pipelines, reducing water wastage.

Minister Targets Previous Government

Minister Pravesh Verma criticized the previous government, stating that the inaction of the previous AAP government has led to persistent water problems in each assembly constituency. He alleged that AAP MLAs raise water shortage complaints but avoid publicly acknowledging them.
