Political Journey: Twice MLA, Once Minister
Kewal Singh Pathania's political journey was filled with struggles and achievements. He served twice as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) and once as the Minister of State for Transport. He won as an independent candidate from Noorpur in 1972 and again in 1990 on a Janata Dal ticket.
First Entry into the Assembly in 1972
In 1972, Kewal Singh Pathania entered the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly after winning as an independent candidate. He defeated the prominent Congress leader, Sat Mahajan, at that time.
1990 Janata Dal Victory and Tenure as Transport Minister
He contested and won the 1990 elections on a Janata Dal ticket. After the Janata Dal merged with the Congress in 1993, he won from Jawalamukhi and served as the Minister of State for Transport in Virbhadra Singh's cabinet.
Did Not Contest in 1985 at Virbhadra Singh's Request
He contested the elections in 1977 as a Janata Party candidate and in 1982 as an independent candidate but lost both times. In 1985, he refrained from contesting at the behest of Virbhadra Singh.
Contested Elections on BSP Ticket in 2007
After losing the 1998 elections to the Congress, he did not contest in 2003. In 2007, he contested the Assembly elections on a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ticket but was unsuccessful.
