Maharashtra Government to Recover Nagpur Violence Damages from Rioters: 104 Rioters Identified, 92 Charged. Seized property will be auctioned; strict action against those who attacked the police.
Maharashtra: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday adopted a firm stance on the Nagpur violence, announcing that the rioters will be made to compensate for the damages. If they fail to pay, their properties will be seized and auctioned. The government has made it clear that strict action will be taken against those who instigated the violence.
Action Against 92
CM Fadnavis informed in a press conference that based on CCTV footage and other electronic evidence, 104 rioters have been identified so far. Legal action has been taken against 92 of them, including 12 minors. The administration is investigating the matter with utmost rigor.
Prime Minister Modi's Visit Uninterrupted
The Chief Minister clarified that despite the violence in Nagpur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit will proceed as planned. He assured that security agencies are fully alert and will take all possible steps to maintain law and order.
Stern Warning Regarding Attacks on Police
Fadnavis, who also holds the Home Ministry portfolio, stated that those who attacked police personnel will not be spared under any circumstances. He said, "My government will not rest until the culprits are punished."
Addressing concerns raised about intelligence agencies, he clarified that it cannot be termed an "intelligence failure," but there is a need to strengthen intelligence gathering in the future.
Denial of Bangladeshi or Foreign Involvement
Fadnavis also clarified that there is no evidence of foreign or Bangladeshi elements involved in the violence. He said that the investigation is ongoing and it would be premature to reach any conclusion on this matter.
He stated that this violence has no political dimension. It is purely a law and order issue, in which the culprits will not be spared under any circumstances.
