"Places with 'abad' in their names will be changed" – Minister Sanjay Shirsat
Minister Shirsat stated that the government is considering renaming all places with the suffix "abad," such as Aurangabad. He said this initiative is part of a cultural restoration effort. The renaming of Khuldabad is in line with this.
Several name changes occurred during Aurangzeb's rule
According to Sanjay Shirsat, the names of cities like Khuldabad and Aurangabad were changed during Mughal rule. They were previously known as Ratnapur and Khadki respectively. The effort now is to restore them to their traditional names.
A memorial will also be built in Khuldabad
The government has also announced the construction of a new memorial in Khuldabad, showcasing the history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj. This site will present Maharashtra's valiant history on the world stage.
Who is buried in Khuldabad?
Khuldabad is not only the burial place of Aurangzeb but also houses the tombs of his son Azam Shah, Nizam Asaf Jah I, and other royal figures. However, in recent times, Aurangzeb's tomb has been a source of contention. Last month, Minister Shirsat stated that it was inappropriate for Maharashtra to house the tomb of a cruel invader.
