Ongoing Clashes Between Security Forces and Naxals in Sukma; Two Naxals Killed. DRG and Cobra Battalion Conducting Search Operations. Government Aims to Eradicate Naxalism by 2026.
Sukma Clashes: Clashes between security forces and Naxals have continued in Sukma district, Chhattisgarh, since Saturday morning. A joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Cobra Battalion launched a search operation after receiving intelligence about Maoist presence. The ensuing conflict has resulted in the reported deaths of two Naxals.
Intermittent Firing
IG Bastar Range, Sundarraj P, confirmed intermittent firing in the area. Security forces are conducting intensive searches of suspected Naxal hideouts. Previously, security forces have conducted several large-scale operations in Naxal-affected areas, inflicting significant losses on the Naxals.
Major Naxal Attack in Bijapur
Prior to the ongoing Sukma clashes, Naxals ambushed a security forces convoy in Bijapur, resulting in the deaths of eight security personnel and a driver. Following this incident, security forces have intensified retaliatory measures and strengthened anti-Naxal operations.
31 Naxals Killed in February
As part of a major anti-Naxal operation conducted in February in the Madder and Farsegad police station areas of Bijapur district, 31 Naxals, including 11 women, were killed. Two security personnel were also killed in this encounter. Security forces recovered a large quantity of arms and explosives during the operation, which lasted approximately 12 hours and involved over 50 Naxals.
Goal of Eradicating Naxalism by 2026
The central government is working with a comprehensive plan to completely eliminate Naxalism. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced the government's aim to eradicate Naxalism from the entire country by March 2026. He stated that the Narendra Modi government has succeeded in eliminating Naxalism from all areas except four districts in Bastar. The central and state governments are continuing joint operations to completely eliminate this problem.
Security Force Operations Continue
Security force operations continue in Sukma, Bijapur, and Bastar districts of Chhattisgarh. Operations in Naxal-affected areas have been intensified, and further stringent measures may be taken in the coming days. Police and security agencies remain vigilant and are fully prepared to respond decisively to any Naxal activity.
