TMC Demands Special Parliament Session to Address Pahalgam Attack

TMC Demands Special Parliament Session on Pahalgam Attack. The party has sought support from opposition parties and emphasized accountability for the intelligence agencies' failure.

New Delhi: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has expressed grave concern over the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, and demanded a special session of Parliament to discuss the incident openly. The TMC parliamentary party held a crucial meeting in Parliament's Central Hall, reviewing the horrific attack and urging transparency from the government. Party MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar stated that all TMC MPs have jointly sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting a special session to openly discuss the incident before the nation.

The Pahalgam Attack and its Severity

The terrorist attack in Pahalgam shook the entire nation. The attack claimed 26 lives and left many others critically injured. This incident was not merely a terrorist attack but also highlighted the intelligence failure of security agencies. The TMC has raised serious questions about this intelligence failure and demanded accountability from the government. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar stated that when the nation has faced such a large-scale attack, it is crucial to understand why we have failed to prevent such incidents.

Demand for a Special Session of Parliament

The TMC parliamentary party meeting decided to request the Prime Minister to convene a special session of Parliament to comprehensively discuss the Pahalgam attack and the growing threat of terrorism. The party believes that open and transparent discussions on such serious incidents are necessary to identify security loopholes and take concrete steps to rectify them. This special session will not only provide an opportunity to understand the causes of the attack but also help in formulating effective strategies to prevent such incidents in the future.

Appeal for Support from Opposition Parties

The TMC has also sought support from other opposition parties on this issue. The party believes that all political parties should work together on major national security issues like terrorism. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar stated that a single party's efforts cannot solve this problem; therefore, the entire opposition must come together on this issue to put pressure on the government to improve national security. This appeal from the TMC is significant because it will increase pressure on the government to maintain transparency and ensure accountability on serious issues.

Concrete Steps Necessary to Tackle Terrorism

The fight against terrorism in the country has intensified after the Pahalgam attack, but the TMC says that the actions of security forces alone are not enough. We must strengthen our intelligence agencies and provide them with timely and accurate information so that we can prevent terrorist attacks beforehand. This requires improvements in law enforcement and the implementation of a better surveillance system. The party has urged the government to work quickly in this direction so that the citizens of the country can feel safe.
