Under President Donald Trump's orders, the United States launched a large-scale operation against illegal immigrants. On Monday, a US military aircraft departed carrying illegal immigrants bound for India.

US Deportation to India: Following President Donald Trump's order, the United States has initiated a large-scale deportation campaign targeting illegal immigrants. As part of this, a US military aircraft carrying illegal immigrants departed for India on Monday, February 3rd. According to Reuters, US officials confirmed the aircraft's arrival in India within 24 hours.

First Deportation Operation to India

This is the first deportation operation to India since Trump's return to the presidency. This action is aimed at returning Indian illegal immigrants residing in the US. President Trump had previously discussed the issue of illegal immigrants with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar. During these discussions, India agreed to accept the return of these immigrants. Reports suggest India agreed to the repatriation of approximately 18,000 illegal immigrants.

Assistance from the US Military

The Trump administration has enlisted the help of the US military for this operation. Additional troops have been deployed along the US-Mexico border, and several military bases are being used to house illegal immigrants. Military aircraft are being used to transport the deportees. While the US has previously deported illegal immigrants to countries like Guatemala, Peru, and Honduras, India represents the furthest destination under this operation.

India-US Dialogue

Donald Trump and Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation last month regarding the issue of illegal immigration. Trump expressed hope that India would take appropriate steps to repatriate the illegal immigrants. According to the White House, the conversation was positive, and discussions covered increased cooperation between the US and India in various areas, including immigration.

Impact on India

This deportation operation could create difficulties for thousands of Indians living illegally in the US. It also presents a challenge for the Indian government, as accommodating such a large number of deportees will not be easy. However, given the prior agreement between India and the US on this issue, the government can prepare a strategy for handling these immigrants.
