India Launches Nationwide Summer Language Camp to Promote Linguistic Diversity

A 'Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp' will be organized in government and private schools across the country. Children will learn their mother tongue, along with one or two other Indian languages, through engaging activities.

New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Education has launched a unique initiative to promote India's linguistic diversity. This summer vacation, a 'Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp' will be held in all government and private schools nationwide. In this camp, students will learn not only their mother tongue but also one or two other Indian languages.

What is the 'Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp'?

The 'Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp' is a week-long program designed to engage students with Indian languages. The camp will teach languages through games, cultural activities, and interactive methods, making language learning an exciting experience. This summer camp has been launched to promote the trilingual formula under the National Education Policy (NEP).

Four hours of classes daily, certificate awarded on the final day

During this week-long camp, four hours of daily activities will be conducted, providing a total of 28 hours of training. At the end of the camp, students will receive a certificate recognizing their participation and language learning achievement.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launches the initiative

The summer camp was officially launched by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. He stated that language should be a bridge of unity, not a tool of politics. Dharmendra Pradhan dedicated this initiative to Jiya Kumari from Bihar, who, while residing in Tamil Nadu, passed her 12th-grade examination in Tamil, scoring 93 out of 100. He said, "We want children across the country to learn more than one Indian language so they can work anywhere and feel connected to every state."

To be organized in 14.5 million schools

This camp will be organized in 14.5 million schools across the country, benefiting over 250 million students and 9.8 million teachers. The aim of this endeavor is to foster national unity and mutual understanding through language.

Dharmendra Pradhan emphasized that India's diversity is its strength. He also mentioned that teachers benefit from opportunities to travel to different states, fostering multilingualism.

Instructions to begin teaching AI and Machine Learning

Along with language, the Ministry of Education has also taken steps to promote technical education. Pradhan instructed the Kendriya Vidyalaya and Navodaya Vidyalaya organizations to begin teaching students AI (Artificial Intelligence) and Machine Learning (ML) from this academic session. Instructions were also given to prepare the curriculum in Indian languages.

Students will be taught about historical landmarks

This initiative will also provide students with information, in their own language, about historical projects such as the Ram Temple, Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, the new Parliament building, and Baba Saheb Ambedkar's memorial. Linguistic primers and learning modules, prepared by the NCERT in 26 languages, will familiarize students with India's rich heritage.
