BCCI Central Contract Row: Virat, Rohit's Status Uncertain Amidst A+ Category Debate
Last Updated: 10 hour ago

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently released its central contract list for women cricketers, including 16 players.

Sports News: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is about to release the central contract list for the men's cricket team, but discussions and controversies have already begun. According to recent updates, while some players are slated for promotions, uncertainty remains regarding the status of several veterans.

Disagreement over A+ Category, Uncertainty about Virat and Rohit's Status

The A+ category previously included Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja. However, disagreements within the board are emerging regarding this list. Since Rohit, Virat, and Jadeja have retired from T20 Internationals, some officials believe retaining them in the A+ category would be inappropriate. Conversely, an influential official opposes changes to this list.

According to BCCI guidelines, the A+ grade includes players who compete in all three formats—Test, ODI, and T20—and are key pillars of the team. Therefore, if Rohit and Virat only play Test and ODI matches, their continued presence in the A+ category might be difficult.

Axar's Promotion, Ashwin's Omission Likely

Team India's star all-rounder, Axar Patel, may be promoted from the B to the A category. His recent appointment as vice-captain of the T20 team has elevated his status, and his performance has been impressive. Meanwhile, following Ravichandran Ashwin's international retirement, his removal from the BCCI contract list is considered certain.

Shreyas Iyer played 11 ODI matches last year with a satisfactory performance. His return to the central contract list is almost certain. However, his category remains unclear.

Official Announcement Imminent

The BCCI selection committee, the Team India head coach, and BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia are finalizing the list. The central contract list for women cricketers has already been released, and everyone's eyes are now on the men's team list. An official announcement is expected in the coming days.
