Sports News: Ajinkya Rahane is set to create a new milestone in IPL 2025. The experienced batsman and former Indian vice-captain has been entrusted with the captaincy of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the upcoming season. This will make him the first Indian player to captain three different teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Rahane Surpasses Rohit, Kohli, and Dhoni

Until now, Virat Kohli (RCB) and Rohit Sharma (MI) have captained only one franchise each in their careers. MS Dhoni captained Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS). However, Ajinkya Rahane will surpass them all, becoming the first Indian to captain three IPL teams.

Rahane first captained RPS for a single match in 2017 when regular captain Steve Smith was absent. He then captained Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2018 and 2019. Now, in 2025, leading KKR, he will achieve this unique feat.

KKR's Surprise Choice: Trust in Rahane

KKR's decision has surprised the cricketing world, considering the franchise purchased Venkatesh Iyer for ₹23.75 crore in the mega auction, while Rahane was added to their squad in the accelerated round for a mere ₹1.5 crore. However, the team management prioritized experience, opting to appoint Rahane as captain.

The first match of IPL 2025 will be played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on March 22nd. Rahane will create history the moment he steps onto the field. While his performance for CSK in the previous season was average, he made a b comeback in domestic cricket, scoring 469 runs at a strike rate of 164.56 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Now, in IPL 2025, his sights are set on leading KKR to their third championship title.
