Eala Capitalizes on Swiatek's Subpar Performance
After easily winning the first set 6-2, Eala faced a tougher challenge from Swiatek in the second set. Despite trailing 4-2, Eala made a remarkable comeback and secured the set 7-5. After her victory, she stated, "I still can't believe it. This is the biggest moment of my career. I always dreamt of playing against top players, and now I'm even winning against them."
A New Sensation from the Nadal Academy
Eala began training at the Rafael Nadal Academy in Mallorca, Spain, when she was 13 years old. There, she honed her tennis skills under the tutelage of Nadal's uncle and former coach, Toni Nadal. Toni Nadal was present at her Miami match, a fact Eala commented on, saying, "It means a lot to me that he was here. It shows the academy's belief in me."
Eala will now face Jessica Pegula of the United States in the semifinals, after Pegula's quarterfinal victory over Emma Raducanu. Eala commented, "Every match is getting tougher, but I'm fully prepared to give my best performance."
Swiatek Accepts Defeat
Following her unexpected defeat, Iga Swiatek stated, "I didn't play my best tennis. My forehand shots weren't accurate, and Eala capitalized on that. She deserved the win. I need to learn from my mistakes."
