Indian Stock Market Surges; Sensex Gains 1200 Points, Nifty Crosses 22,500
Stock Market Today: Riding on positive cues from Asian markets, the Indian stock market opened bly on Tuesday. The BSE Sensex opened at 74,347.41, up 1,209.51 points or 1.65%, while the NSE Nifty-50 surged 386.30 points or 1.74% to reach 22,547.90. Titan shares witnessed a surge of over 5%.
Sharp Rebound After Previous Day's Decline
Monday's trading session saw a significant market downturn. The Sensex closed at 73,137.90, down 2,226.79 points (2.95%), while the Nifty-50 closed at 22,161.60, down 742.85 points (3.24%). This decline was considered the largest since June 4th, 2024.
Global Market Cues: US-China Tariff Tensions
Global markets showed volatility following statements by US President Donald Trump regarding tariff pressure on China. Trump demanded the removal of reciprocal tariffs from China, while China indicated plans for a b response.
S&P 500 futures rose by 0.9%, and Nasdaq-100 futures gained approximately 1%. Dow Futures also saw a rise of around 1.2%. However, the Dow Jones and S&P 500 had declined on Monday.
Asian Markets Rally
Japan's Nikkei 225 index climbed 6.31%, and the Topix rose 6.81%. South Korea's Kospi increased by 0.35%, and the Kosdaq strengthened by 2.15%. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 also rose by 1.3%, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 2%, and China's CSI 300 was up 0.35%.
Focus on RBI Meeting and Earnings
Investors are now awaiting the decision of the Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting, which will be announced on Wednesday. Q4 results from companies and key macroeconomic data expected this week will also influence market direction.
