Nag Parvat: Abode of the Nag Devatas
Nag Parvat (Snake Mountain), situated near Pushkar, is considered the dwelling place of the Nag Devatas (snake deities). This mountain not only acts as a natural dividing line between Ajmer and Pushkar but also serves as a natural sanctuary for thousands of rare snake species. Ancient beliefs posit this location as symbolic of the origin of the Nagavansha (snake dynasty), and it is said that the Pandavas resided here during their exile.
The Mysterious Influence of Nag Kund
Located at the foot of Nag Parvat, Nag Kund and the ancient Nag Mandir (snake temple) are considered to be imbued with special spiritual energy. It is said that anyone suffering from Kaal Sarp Dosh who bathes in this pond on Nag Panchami will be relieved of the affliction. Local snake rescuer Sukhdev Bhatt explains that any snakes sighted in and around Pushkar are caught and released on Nag Parvat. Thousands of snakes have been safely relocated to the mountain in this manner.
The Tapasya Bhoomi of Rishis and Munis
This place is not only famous for the worship of Nag Devatas but is also considered a tapasya bhoomi (place of penance) for rishis and munis (sages). Many accomplished ascetics still practice sadhana (spiritual practices) here. This part of the Aravalli mountain range is considered particularly significant for spiritual awakening.
