Wedding season is just around the corner! The auspicious period begins on April 13th, with the start of the second month of Nav Samvatsar, Vaisakha. The Kharmas period ends on April 14th, marking the commencement of favorable wedding dates. A total of 15 auspicious wedding dates fall within the Vaisakha month, promising a season filled with celebratory sounds of bands, baraats (wedding processions), and shehnais (traditional oboes). This will be followed by 12 auspicious wedding dates in the Jyeshtha month, lasting until June 8th.
Following this, the setting of Guru (Jupiter) will temporarily halt auspicious events like weddings. After a gap of approximately five and a half months, auspicious wedding dates will resume on November 22nd in the Margashirsha month, lasting until December 5th. After December 5th, the wedding season will resume again in January of the following year.
Wedding Muhurats Begin with the End of Kharmas
According to Professor Vinay Kumar Pandey, Jyotishacharya (astrologer) at Kashi Hindu University, Kharmas will end at 5:29 AM on April 14th. The first wedding muhurat of the year will also fall on this day. Although April 15th is inauspicious due to Mrityubana and Vyatipat Yoga, auspicious wedding dates will resume from April 16th.
Bands and Celebrations will Peak in Vaisakha and Jyeshtha
• Between April and June, encompassing the Vaisakha and Jyeshtha months, there will be a total of 27 auspicious days for weddings.
• Vaisakha month (April 14th - May 10th): 15 auspicious dates
• Jyeshtha month (May 14th - June 10th): 12 auspicious dates
• Within this 58-day period, only 27 days are auspicious for weddings, suggesting high demand for pandits (priests), bands, and wedding venues.
Weddings Halt Again After June 8th
With the setting of Guru (Jupiter) on June 8th, auspicious events will once again be paused. Wedding muhurats will recommence on November 22nd, but this period will also be short-lived, as the setting of Shukra (Venus) on December 5th will bring another halt to weddings. While traditionally auspicious events cease with Devshyani Ekadashi (this year on July 6th), in 2025, wedding muhurats will conclude 28 days earlier due to the setting of Guru (Jupiter).
Conversely, Devotthan Ekadashi falls on November 1st, but the planetary positions of Shukra (Venus) and Surya (Sun) will be unfavorable for weddings, rendering most days in November unsuitable for marriage ceremonies.
