The Mythological Story of Putrada Ekadashi
In ancient times, King Suketu and his queen, Shaivya, of Mahishmati Nagar were deeply religious and virtuous. However, they were deprived of the joy of children, causing immense sorrow and stress in their lives. They made every effort to overcome this grief, but nothing seemed to work.
One day, the king and queen heard from Brahmins that the Putrada Ekadashi fast is extremely auspicious and fruitful for attaining children. King Suketu decided to observe this fast and informed Queen Shaivya. The King resolved to perform rigorous penance and observe the fast to obtain the happiness of children.
The King observed the fast on Putrada Ekadashi, worshipping Lord Vishnu with complete faith and devotion. He prayed to Lord Vishnu for the happiness of having children. He believed that observing this fast would bring happiness and prosperity back into his life. Pleased by the King's penance and devotion, Lord Vishnu appeared before him and blessed him that he would soon receive the happiness of children. Lord Vishnu told the King that observing this Ekadashi fast would end all his sorrows and grant him a beautiful child.
With Lord Vishnu's blessings, happiness returned to the King and Queen's lives. Queen Shaivya gave birth to a beautiful son. The King and Queen thanked Lord Vishnu and experienced happiness and prosperity in their lives through His blessings.
