Shri Satyanarayan Vrat Katha - Fifth Chapter: What is it and what are its benefits?
Sūta said: O Rishis, I will narrate another story; listen attentively! King Tunga-dhvaja, engrossed in the welfare of his subjects, once rejected the offering of Lord's Prasad. He endured great suffering. One day, while hunting in the forest, he came across cowherds devotedly worshipping Lord Satyanarayan. Driven by pride, the king did not join them in the worship and did not offer his obeisance. The cowherds offered him Prasad, but he refused to accept it and left the place.
Upon returning to his kingdom, he found it in ruins. He immediately understood that the Lord had acted. He hastened to the cowherds, performed the proper rituals, accepted the Prasad, and by the grace of Lord Satyanarayan, his kingdom was restored to its former glory. After enjoying long years of prosperity, he attained the celestial realm upon his death.
The person who performs this most rare vrata will, through the grace of Lord Satyanarayan, receive wealth and prosperity. The poor become rich, and they live a life free from fear. Childless people will have children, and their desires will be fulfilled. Upon death, they shall attain the celestial abode, Vaikuntha.
Sūta said: Now, I shall narrate the story of those who performed this vrata in their previous lives. The elderly Brahmin Shatananda, taking birth as Sudama, attained liberation. A woodcutter, in his next life, became a Nishad and achieved salvation. King Utkamukh, reborn as King Dasaratha, reached Vaikuntha. The merchant named Sadhu, reborn as Moradhwaja, tragically lost his son, but found liberation. King Tunga-dhvaja, reborn, practiced devotion and performed righteous actions to attain salvation.
Thus ends the fifth chapter of Shri Satyanarayan Vrat Katha.
