Air India has introduced a new feature to enhance passenger convenience, enabling easier tracking of lost baggage. The airline has integrated Apple AirTag into its baggage tracking system, allowing iPhone, iPad, and Mac users to easily locate their bags.

This feature makes Air India the first airline in Asia to adopt this technology. While Air India boasts a 99.6% on-time baggage delivery rate for its millions of annual passengers, instances of misplaced bags do occur. The integration of Apple AirTag aims to significantly improve the retrieval process in such cases.

How will AirTag baggage tracking work?

Passengers will use Air India's "Track My Bags" feature to access their bag's location via Apple AirTag. If a bag is lost during a flight, passengers should follow these steps:

1. Report to the Air India baggage counter: The passenger must first report the lost bag at the Air India baggage counter. Staff will assist with the necessary paperwork.

2. Share location via the Find My app: The passenger should open the "Find My" app on their iPhone and share the location of their AirTag.

3. Send the location link to Air India:
• Access the Air India mobile app and select "Baggage" in the customer support portal.
• Go to "Lost & Found Check-in Baggage" and add the link to their AirTag location.
• Alternatively, this process can be completed by logging into the Air India website.

Who will benefit from AirTag baggage tracking?

This new feature is particularly beneficial for passengers who own Apple devices such as iPhones, iPads, or MacBooks. Only passengers using Apple AirTags will be able to track their bag's live location. If a bag is lost, its precise location can be quickly relayed to the Air India team, facilitating swift retrieval.

Benefits of the AirTag system:

Reduced anxiety about lost luggage: Passengers will experience less worry about their bags.

Faster location identification: Locating lost bags will be easier, allowing the Air India team to trace them quickly.

Online tracking facility: Passengers can check their bag's status via the Air India app or website.

Alignment with major airline technology: By adopting the AirTag system, Air India aligns itself with global airline industry standards.

Air India's new initiative: a significant relief for passengers

This Air India initiative offers significant relief to passengers who frequently face the problem of lost baggage during flights. This innovation could bring about a major shift in the airline industry, enabling passengers to independently track their baggage status using Apple AirTag and facilitating smooth retrieval of their belongings.
