Potential Risks of Lychee Consumption

Consumption of Unripe Lychee:

Unripe lychee contains toxins such as hypoglycin A and methylenecyclopropyl-glycine (MCPG). Consuming large quantities of these toxins can induce vomiting. This can be particularly problematic for malnourished children, potentially leading to fever and seizures.

 

Allergies:

Lychee can trigger allergic reactions, especially in individuals with allergies to birch, sunflower seeds, other plants, mugwort, or latex.

 

Weight Gain:

Lychee contains a significant amount of sugar, which can contribute to weight gain. Its caloric content can also lead to fat accumulation in the body.
