The political landscape of opposition alliances in India is rapidly shifting. Recently, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), a member of the opposition's joint platform, the 'INDIA alliance', announced a significant distancing from the Congress party.

New Delhi: The opposition parties are mounting a b response to the government regarding "Operation Sindur," demanding a special session of Parliament to thoroughly investigate the matter. However, cracks within the opposition front are becoming increasingly visible. Relations between the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are strained, particularly after Arvind Kejriwal's party expressed its displeasure with the Congress.

The AAP has clarified that it will not participate in Congress-led alliances and will only join those where the Congress is not involved.

AAP's Contradictory Stance

According to sources, the AAP has disagreed with the Congress-led 'INDIA alliance' strategy. The party has declared its intention to join only alliances that exclude the Congress. This decision was communicated to the media by sources. Furthermore, the AAP is independently pursuing its demand for a special session of Parliament from the government.

The AAP will soon send a separate letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding a special session of Parliament. This letter will be distinct from the one sent by the Congress and other opposition parties.

Opposition Voices for a Special Session of Parliament

Recently, opposition parties have bly demanded a special session of Parliament to address issues like "Operation Sindur" against the government. Around 16 opposition parties, led by the Congress, have sent a letter to the Prime Minister regarding this demand. The Congress stated that the government is accountable to Parliament, and Parliament is responsible to the people. Leaders from the Congress, Samajwadi Party, Shiv Sena (UBT), RJD, TMC, and other parties participated in this meeting.

Congress leader Deepender Hooda said, "Given the current situation in the country, the Congress and other opposition parties are fully supporting the army and the government. Following the ceasefire announcement by the US, it has become imperative to call a special session of Parliament."

Growing Distance Between AAP and Congress After Delhi Elections

Tensions between the AAP and the Congress intensified during the Delhi Assembly elections. Both parties contested the elections separately. The AAP, which had been in power in Delhi for ten consecutive years, suffered a significant defeat in this election. Political analysts attribute this partly to the differences with the Congress. The BJP captured power in Delhi after 25 years.

This electoral defeat and differences in political strategy are now manifesting in the AAP's decision to maintain distance from the Congress within the INDIA alliance. This reflects the discontent and disagreements within the alliance.

What Happened at the Alliance Meeting?

The opposition parties' meeting held on June 3rd at the Constitution Club in Delhi included Jairam Ramesh (Congress), Sanjay Raut (Shiv Sena UBT), Ram Gopal Yadav (Samajwadi Party), Manoj Jha (RJD), and Derek O'Brien (TMC). The meeting discussed the demand for a special session of Parliament, and the opposition parties jointly wrote to the PM.

However, following this meeting, the AAP demonstrated a separate strategy and political stance, revealing a new rift within the INDIA alliance. The AAP's move has raised questions about the strength of the opposition's grand alliance. By distancing itself from the Congress, the AAP has taken a new political turn, which could potentially impact the opposition's strategy for the 2025 Lok Sabha elections.
