Surrender and Attempted Suicide After the Murders

After committing the murders, Afaan surrendered at the Venjaramoodu police station. He immediately attempted suicide by consuming poison but was admitted to a hospital in time. According to the police, his condition is stable, and he has been formally arrested.

Was Financial Distress the Motive?

Preliminary police investigations reveal that Afaan was heavily indebted, owing approximately 6.5 million rupees to 14 different individuals. He initially planned to commit suicide with his mother and brother but instead, on February 24th, murdered his 88-year-old grandmother, 13-year-old brother, girlfriend, uncle, and aunt.

Family Denies Claims of Financial Crisis

The accused's father, who returned from abroad a day before the incident, refuted the police's claims about the debt. He stated that his family was not under any significant financial pressure. He said, "We did not have any major debt. The police should investigate to find out the real reason for the murders."

Afaan also attacked his mother after the murders, but she survived and is currently hospitalized. According to the police, the murders occurred in two different police station areas: Venjaramoodu and Pangode.

What Was the Real Motive?

Afaan has been arrested in connection with the murders in the Pangode area, and his arrest in the remaining cases is imminent. The police are thoroughly investigating the entire sequence of events, and further sensational revelations may emerge in the coming days. Current investigations suggest Afaan's debt and mental state as possible motives for the killings, but police are also exploring the possibility of a deeper conspiracy.
