Maharashtra Government Approves ₹13.46 Crore for Tukaram Omble Memorial

Tukaram Omble Memorial: The Maharashtra government has decided to build a grand memorial in honor of Assistant Police Inspector Tukaram Omble, who was martyred during the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. The government has sanctioned ₹13.46 crore for the construction of this memorial. An initial installment of ₹2.70 crore (20% of the total amount) has been released to the district administration, paving the way for the commencement of construction work soon.

Omble's Memorial to be Built in his Native Village, Kedambe

The memorial will be constructed in Kedambe village, Satara district, the native place of Tukaram Omble. The government believes that this memorial will keep alive the immortal story of his bravery and sacrifice, inspiring future generations.

Tukaram Omble's Bravery: The Hero Who Captured Kasab Alive

During the Mumbai terror attacks, Tukaram Omble displayed extraordinary bravery. When terrorist Ajmal Kasab and his accomplice Ismail Khan reached near Girgaum Chowpatty, Omble bravely grabbed Kasab's rifle, preventing him from moving. Kasab fired 23 bullets at him, yet Tukaram held Kasab in check until the police apprehended him alive. His martyrdom marked a significant turning point in India's fight against terrorism.

November 26, 2008: When Mumbai was Drenched in Blood

On November 26, 2008, ten terrorists, arriving by sea from Pakistan, launched an attack on Mumbai. They first targeted Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) railway station, followed by attacks on Cama Hospital and other locations. Six policemen, including ATS chief Hemant Karkare, were martyred in the ensuing gunfire.

Stopping the Terrorists at Girgaum Chowpatty

Mumbai police had set up barricades at various locations to stop the terrorists. At Girgaum Chowpatty, a police team attempted to stop Ajmal Kasab and Ismail Khan's vehicle. Tukaram Omble, without regard for his own life, held onto Kasab's gun, giving other policemen the opportunity to capture him alive. However, Omble lost his life in the process.

Over 164 Deaths in the 26/11 Attacks

The Mumbai attacks resulted in the deaths of over 164 people and injuries to more than 300, including several foreign nationals. The wounds of this terrorist attack remain fresh in the hearts of Mumbaikars.
