Severe weather struck Haryana on Friday evening, causing widespread damage across several districts. High winds, rain, and hailstorms resulted in significant destruction.
Chandigarh. Friday evening brought a sudden and dramatic change in weather across Haryana, leading to extensive damage in many districts. Between approximately 4:00 PM and 6:15 PM, b winds, rain, and hail lashed the region. Wind speeds reached 50-60 km per hour.
Numerous districts, including Hisar, Bhiwani, Sirsa, Fatehabad, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Panipat, Gurugram, Rohtak, and Sonipat, experienced power outages due to fallen trees and electricity poles.
Damage to Prime Minister Modi's Rally Pavilion
In Hisar, the waterproof German tent erected for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming rally was damaged by the storm. The pavilion collapsed, leaving only fans hanging from the pillars. PM Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Hisar airport on April 14th.
Minister's Event Tent Destroyed
The tent for Minister Krishan Lal Panwar's event in Charkhi Dadri was also blown away by the b winds. He was attending a kabaddi competition when the weather turned violent.
Damage Across Multiple Districts
Sirsa: Two animals died due to hail and lightning strikes. A councilor's water tank was damaged.
Panipat: Over 70 electricity poles were damaged, causing a complete blackout across the district.
Rohtak: One and a half lakh quintals of wheat in the mandis (grain markets) were drenched, and power supply was disrupted for two hours.
Gurugram: A large signage board fell on a car on the Dwarka Expressway, injuring two people.
Karnal-Kaithal: Dozens of trees and more than 11 electricity poles fell.
Significant Temperature Drop
Sirsa recorded a drop of 11.2 degrees Celsius in the maximum temperature. Hisar's temperature fell from 42.8 degrees to 36.4 degrees. Other districts also saw a temperature decrease of 5-6 degrees.
Future Weather Forecast
According to Dr. Madan Khichar, a weather expert at Haryana Agricultural University, the weather will remain changeable until Saturday due to the influence of a western disturbance. Light rain is possible in North Haryana. The weather is expected to be clear and dry from Sunday to Wednesday.
Demand for Compensation for Farmers
Congress leader Randeep Surjewala has demanded compensation of ₹20,000 per acre for affected farmers. He appealed for fair assessment of the damaged crops in the mandis and provision of financial assistance.
