Sports News: The BCCI has taken strict action against fast bowler Ishant Sharma for breaching the spirit of the game in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Following a match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans, Ishant Sharma was found to have violated Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. As a result, the BCCI has deducted 25% of his match fee and also awarded him a demerit point.

Action Taken in Anger, Damage to Board Property

According to post-match reports, Ishant Sharma, in a fit of anger, damaged advertising boards on the field. This incident occurred during the match against SRH when he appeared displeased after conceding runs while bowling. His behavior has been classified as a 'Level 1 offence,' considered inappropriate under the Code of Conduct.

What does Article 2.2 state?

Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct encompasses acts that involve damage to property on the field or in the dressing room. This includes actions such as kicking wickets, damaging advertising boards, breaking windows, or tampering with fittings. These actions reflect either anger or deliberate negligence on the part of the player.

Ishant Admits to the Offence

The BCCI's statement mentioned that Ishant Sharma accepted the Level 1 offence and has accepted the match referee's decision. The match referee's decision on Level 1 violations is considered final and binding, with no appeals allowed. Ishant Sharma's performance in IPL 2025 hasn't been impressive so far. In his third match against SRH, he proved quite expensive. For this veteran bowler, returning to the IPL after a long time, this loss of form and composure could prove detrimental.
