A jackal was traversing the hills of the forest. He spotted a boar and a hunter engaged in a fight some distance away. The hunter aimed his arrow at the boar, but missed. This enraged the wild boar, and it attacked the hunter. Before the boar could reach the hunter, the hunter released a second arrow. The arrow wounded the boar. Despite the injury, the boar managed to kill the hunter. Weakened by the wounds, the boar soon succumbed as well.
Witnessing the entire scene, the jackal thought, "Today is a feast for me. I can eat both of them for days." The jackal, being greedy, began to lick the blood-stained bowstring, noticing a piece of meat clinging to it. As he tried to consume the meat, the bowstring snapped, its sharp edge piercing his mouth and forehead. Thus, the greedy jackal met his end.
