A Famous and Inspiring Story: Who Is the Real Mother?
A peculiar case arose before Emperor Akbar's court, perplexing everyone. Two women, each accompanied by a beautiful child of approximately two to three years old, arrived weeping. Both claimed the child as their own. Unfortunately, they resided outside the city, making their identities unknown. The challenge before the Emperor was determining the rightful mother and ensuring justice was served. The court consulted the opinions of courtiers, but none could unravel the mystery. Then, Birbal arrived in the court.
Emperor Akbar's eyes lit up upon seeing Birbal. He informed Birbal of the predicament, requesting his wisdom in resolving the matter. Birbal pondered for a while, then instructed the executioner to be summoned.
Once the executioner arrived, Birbal seated the child and stated, "Let's try this. We will divide the child into two parts, and one part will be given to each woman. If any of the women object to this, the executioner will execute her."
Hearing this, one of the women agreed to the child's division, declaring her acceptance of the order. She was prepared to take one part of the child, but the other woman wept uncontrollably, exclaiming, "I don't want the child. Execute me, but do not harm the child. Please give the child to the other woman." The courtiers now believed the weeping woman was at fault. However, Birbal intervened, stating, "Arrest the woman who agreed to the child's division. She is the culprit." Upon hearing this, the woman who initially agreed to the division cried and begged for forgiveness, but Emperor Akbar had her imprisoned.
Later, Akbar questioned Birbal, "How did you know which one was the real mother?" Birbal smiled and responded, "Your Majesty, a mother sacrifices everything for her child. She shields her child from harm, even at the cost of her own well-being. This is precisely what occurred. The woman who readily consented to the division of the child, rather than allow harm to the child, is the true mother." Emperor Akbar was once again impressed by Birbal's intellect and wisdom.
Lesson from this story: - We should never claim what belongs to another. Truth always prevails, and a thoughtful approach resolves every problem.
