Presenting the famous and inspiring story, Imitation Without Understanding
Once upon a time, in a certain country, a drought caused a famine. All the crops withered and were ruined. The people of that country began to yearn for food and drink. In such a difficult time, even the crows and other birds and animals were deprived of bread or pieces of food. When the crows had not found anything to eat for several days, they began to search the forests in search of food. Upon reaching the forest, a pair of crows perched on a tree and made their home there. Below that tree was a pond. A crow lived in the water of that pond. He spent the whole day in the water, catching numerous fish and filling his stomach. When his stomach was full, he would also play in the water.
The crow perched on the branch of the tree, when he saw the crow in the water, he also desired to be like him. He thought that if he befriended the water crow, he too would get fish to eat all day and his life would improve. He went to the edge of the pond and began speaking sweetly to the water crow. He said, "Friend, you are very healthy. You catch fish in the blink of an eye. Will you teach me this skill?" Hearing this, the water crow said, "Friend, what will you do by learning this? Whenever you are hungry, just let me know. I will catch you some fish from the water, and you can eat them."
From that day on, whenever the crow felt hungry, he would go to the water crow and get many fish to eat. One day, the crow thought, "Catching fish in the water is all there is to it. I can do this myself. Why should I always be indebted to that water crow?" He decided that he would go to the pond and catch fish himself. As he began to enter the pond, the water crow said again, "Friend, don't do this. You don't know how to catch fish in the water, so going into the water might be risky for you." Hearing the water crow, the crow perched on the tree said boastfully, "You are saying this out of pride. I can also go into the water and catch fish, and today I will prove it."
Saying so, the crow jumped into the pond with a splash. Now, there was mud at the bottom of the pond, in which he became trapped. The crow had no experience of removing the mud or getting out of it. He tried to peck at the mud to create a hole, but in doing so, his beak also became stuck in the mud. After a lot of effort, he could not get out of the mud, and after a while, he died due to suffocation in the water. Later, the hen, searching for the crow, came to the pond. Upon reaching there, she asked the water crow about her crow. The water crow explained everything, saying, "Trying to imitate me, that crow lost his life by his own actions."
This story teaches us that - Even to pretend to be like someone else, one needs to work hard. Also, arrogance is very bad for a person.
