Introducing the famous and inspiring story, The Clay Toy

Long ago, in the village of Chui, lived a potter. He would go to the city every day to sell the earthenware and toys he crafted. This was how he made a living. Tired of the daily struggles, his wife one day urged him to stop making earthenware and seek a job in the city to earn more. The potter found his wife's words reasonable. He too was unhappy with his situation. He went to the city and took a job. Though he worked, he yearned to create clay toys and pottery. Yet, he suppressed his feelings and diligently pursued his job.

Years passed as he worked diligently. One day, his employer invited him to his son's birthday party. Everyone brought expensive gifts. The potter thought, 'Who will appreciate a gift from a poor man?', so he decided to make a clay toy for the employer's son. He crafted a clay toy and presented it as a gift. When the party concluded, the employer's son and the other children loved the clay toy. All the children insisted on getting one like it.

The children's insistence led everyone at the gathering to talk about the clay toy. Everyone was curious to know who had brought such a wonderful toy. Someone in the crowd revealed that the servant had brought it. Everyone was amazed. They then asked the potter about the toy. They all exclaimed, "Where did you get such an expensive and beautiful toy? How did you get it? Now our children are also demanding this toy!" The potter explained, "It's not an expensive toy; I made it myself. I used to make and sell these in my village. However, the earnings were meager, so I left and took up this job in the city."

The employer was astonished by this. He asked, "Can you make such a toy for every child here?" The potter happily replied, "Yes, sir, that's my profession. I love making clay toys. I can make toys for all the children immediately." Having said this, the potter gathered clay and began making toys. Soon, many colorful clay toys were ready. The employer was amazed and delighted by the potter's artistry. He began to think about the business of clay toys. He thought he would commission the potter to make clay toys which he would then sell. With this thought, he assigned the potter the task of creating clay toys.

The employer, pleased with the potter's clay-making skills, decided to provide him with a good house and a decent salary. The potter was overjoyed at this offer. He immediately returned to his village and brought his family to live with him. His family, who had been struggling with poverty, now lived comfortably in the house provided by the employer. The employer made a considerable profit from the sale of the potter's toys. Everyone lived happily and joyfully.

The lesson from this story is: Skill never abandons a person. If someone excels in a profession, that skill can help them overcome difficult circumstances.
