The Greedy Cat and the Monkey
In a forest where animals lived in harmony, observing the forest rules and celebrating festivals together, lived two cats, Chini and Mini. They were close friends, always supporting each other through sickness, going out together, and even eating meals together. All the forest creatures admired their friendship. One day, Mini had to go to the market for something, but Chini couldn't accompany her. Feeling lonely, Chini decided to go to the market herself.
While walking, she found a piece of bread. Greed filled her heart, and she took it back to her home. Just as she was about to eat it, Mini returned. Seeing the bread in Chini's hand, Mini asked, "Chini, we always share our food. Why wouldn't you share this bread with me?" Chini, startled, immediately began to rationalize her actions, saying, "Oh no, I was going to divide it equally so we could each have half."
Mini understood, but remained silent. As soon as the bread was divided, Mini cried out that she had received less. Chini, wanting to keep more for herself, insisted that the division was fair. A quarrel ensued, which quickly spread throughout the forest. All the animals witnessed the dispute. At that moment, a monkey approached and offered to divide the bread fairly.
Reluctantly, the cats handed the bread to the monkey. The monkey brought a scale, placing a piece of bread on each side. He then carefully ate a bit from the larger side, claiming it was to balance the weights. He repeatedly took more from the heavier side, until only tiny pieces remained on each side. Seeing the meager portions, the cats exclaimed, "Give us back our bread! Let us share the rest!" The monkey retorted, "Aha! You are truly sly. Won't you reward me for my effort?" With that, he devoured the remaining bread and left the two cats, who stared at each other in disappointment.
The Moral of the Story: We should never be greedy. We should be content with what we have and live in harmony with others. Greed can lead us to lose everything we have.
