The film depicts the fierce battle of Rezang La, fought during the 1962 India-China War, where a mere 120 Indian soldiers clashed with thousands of Chinese troops at a challenging altitude of 17,000 feet, making history.
Major Shaitan Singh not only maintained the morale of his unit but also displayed valor worthy of the Param Vir Chakra, holding the front until his last breath. In honor of this great warrior from Rajasthan, a temple stands in his village to this day, where people pay respects before every auspicious occasion. Major Shaitan Singh: Rajasthan's Brave Warrior
Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, born on December 1, 1924, in Banasar village of the Jodhpur princely state, was one of the unique heroes of the Indian Army who left an indelible mark on the nation's history. Raised in a military environment, Bhati completed his education at Chopasni School, Jodhpur, and joined the Kumaon Regiment in 1949. Due to his excellent leadership and decisive decision-making abilities, he was entrusted with the command of Charlie Company of the 13 Kumaon Regiment during the 1962 India-China War, where he displayed unparalleled valor.
Unparalleled Valor at Rezang La
On November 18, 1962, at the 17,000-foot-high post of Rezang La, Major Shaitan Singh Bhati created history, an example of which is rare even in world wars. Cut off from the main security area, his Charlie Company of 120 soldiers faced over 3,000 Chinese troops at this front. Despite extremely difficult conditions, Major Singh refused to retreat, going from post to post to boost the morale of his soldiers and direct strategy. His leadership and unwavering courage, even in adverse circumstances, immortalized this battle.
Fighting Until the Last Breath
Even after being critically wounded amidst heavy gunfire, Major Shaitan Singh did not abandon his post. Prioritizing the safety of his comrades, he ordered them to retreat while he himself remained entrenched behind a rock. Amidst continuous firing, he attained martyrdom, but his unwavering courage inflicted heavy losses on the Chinese army. In this battle, 114 out of his 120 soldiers were martyred, but over 1300 Chinese soldiers were killed, thereby strengthening the security of Chushul and Ladakh.
