AIIMS Gorakhpur Institute Body Formed Without Uttar Pradesh Doctor Representation

The new AIIMS Gorakhpur Institute Body has been constituted, raising concerns as no doctors from Uttar Pradesh have been included in the key administrative committee.

Gorakhpur - The new Institute Body (IB) of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Gorakhpur has been constituted, but this time, no doctor from Uttar Pradesh has been included in this important committee.

According to sources, the Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has been included in the committee in place of a member from Allahabad University. Members of Parliament Ravikishan Shukla (Gorakhpur Sadar) and Ramashankar Rajbhar (Salempur), along with former Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Dinesh Sharma, are also representatives on the IB.

The IB is typically appointed for a term of five years and plays a crucial role in the administrative, policy, and academic affairs of AIIMS. Important decisions regarding the institute are periodically placed before the committee. Currently, one seat remains vacant this time.

Previously, local doctors such as Dr. Ashok Jahnavi Prasad, a senior physician from Gorakhpur, served as the Chairman of the Academic Committee and a member of the IB. During his tenure, work was done on several important initiatives, including the commencement of six super specialty departments, but his representation is not visible in the committee this time.

Other prominent members included in the new IB are from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Ministry of Finance, IIT Kanpur, and other distinguished medical experts.
