Major Political Stirrings Ahead of Bihar Elections – Notorious Bihar bman and former MLA Anant Singh has been granted relief from jail. The Patna High Court granted him bail on Tuesday.
Patna: Bihar politics has taken another significant turn. Anant Singh, the state's infamous bman and former MLA, has been granted bail by the Patna High Court. This bail pertains to the Sonu-Monu firing case. It is now anticipated that Anant Singh could be released from jail before the Bihar Assembly elections in 2025, potentially triggering new political dynamics in the state.
What is the Case?
The case is related to Panchmahala Police Station Case No. 5/2025, in which Anant Singh is accused of firing along with associates of the Sonu and Monu gang. Sonu's mother filed an FIR against Anant Singh in this matter, leading to his imprisonment. However, Anant Singh also filed a counter-complaint against the same gang.
The lower court had previously rejected Anant Singh's bail petition, but the Patna High Court has now accepted his plea and ordered his release on bail. This order was issued today, Tuesday, and Anant Singh's release is considered certain once the bail order copy is submitted to the prison administration.
What Happened During the Firing?
Anant Singh claimed at the time of his surrender that he had gone to intervene after receiving a complaint about a family being forcibly evicted from their home and the property being locked up. He alleged that the Sonu-Monu gang present there started firing at him. A video of the incident also went viral, clearly showing the sounds of gunfire and the chaotic atmosphere on the village road.
As soon as the news of Anant Singh's bail spread, Mokama, the area considered his bhold, erupted in celebration. His supporters took to the streets with drums and music, distributed sweets, and were seen chanting slogans. Supporters claim that this is a "victory of truth," and hopes for Anant Singh's return to politics have been reignited.
Will the Political Landscape Change Before the Bihar Elections?
With preparations for the Bihar Assembly elections in full swing, the release of a powerful leader like Anant Singh from jail could alter several political equations. While it is not yet clear which party Anant Singh will align with or whether he will be politically active independently, it is certain that his presence will intensify the electoral battle.
Anant Singh has been a long-time MLA from Mokama and was once known as "Chhote Sarkar" (Little Government). However, due to entanglement in legal matters, he had distanced himself from political activities in recent years. But now, with his release on bail, will he become active in politics again? This question is on everyone's mind.
