Jodhpur: Asaram, who is serving a life sentence in a sexual assault case involving a minor student from his gurukul, suddenly fell ill on Thursday. According to sources, he experienced severe breathing difficulties at Jodhpur Central Jail, after which the jail administration immediately admitted him to the private hospital Aarogyam.
The jail administration stated that Asaram has been suffering from several serious illnesses for some time and often experiences difficulty breathing. A medical team is continuously monitoring him. For security reasons, the hospital administration has completely restricted the entry of outsiders into Asaram's ward, while a special team of jail police remains deployed at the hospital at all times.
Life Imprisonment in Sexual Assault Case
In 2018, Asaram was sentenced to life imprisonment by a special POCSO court in Jodhpur, after being convicted in a rape case involving a minor student. He has been imprisoned in Jodhpur Central Jail ever since.
Previously, in 2013, a 16-year-old girl accused Asaram of sexual harassment at his ashram near Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The victim's parents filed a complaint in this case, and the police arrested Asaram on August 31, 2013.
Asaram's Health Condition Serious in Jail
According to sources, Asaram has been battling health issues for several years. Breathing difficulties, age-related illnesses, and other complications are affecting his daily life and his situation in jail.
The medical team is continuously monitoring him, and doctors have started the necessary treatment. Due to security and privacy concerns, media and external individuals are not permitted to enter the ward.
Multiple Charges Against Asaram
The case in Jodhpur is not the only one against Asaram. In 2013, two sisters from Surat also alleged that Asaram and his son Narayan Sai sexually exploited them in the mid-2000s.
The Jodhpur court convicted Asaram under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the Juvenile Justice Act. He has been continuously in jail since this conviction.
