According to the list of holidays provided on the Reserve Bank of India's website, banks will remain closed in some states on October 7 due to two major festivals: Valmiki Jayanti and Kumar Purnima. These states include Karnataka, Odisha, Chandigarh, and Himachal Pradesh. All bank branches in these states will be closed today, and banking operations will be affected.
Meanwhile, banks will remain open today in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru, and customers will continue to receive normal services.
Where Banks Will Be Closed and Where They Will Be Open
On the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti, both public and private banks will be closed today in Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, and Karnataka. Similarly, banking operations will remain suspended in Odisha due to Kumar Purnima.
However, banking services will remain normal in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal. Customers in these states can visit banks today to carry out their essential transactions.
Total 21 Days of Bank Holidays in October
The month of October is full of festivals. This month, bank holidays across different states in the country total up to 21 days. This includes Sundays and Saturdays. Besides 4 Sundays and 2 second Saturdays, banks will be closed for 15 days due to local festivals and celebrations in various states this month.
According to the RBI calendar, banks will be closed in various parts of the country on October 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 10, 18, 20, 21, 22, 23, 27, 28, and 31 in October 2025. However, it is important to note that banks do not remain closed on all these days in every state. Holidays are determined according to local festivals.
Extended Holiday List Due to Festivals
This October, after Gandhi Jayanti (October 2) and Dussehra (October 3-4), several major festivals are yet to come. Big festivals like Diwali, Govardhan Puja, Bhai Dooj, and Chhath Mahaparv will be celebrated this month. During these festivals, many states will experience consecutive holidays.
For example, in Sikkim, banks remained closed for 5 consecutive days from October 1 to 5 at the beginning of this month. Now, banking operations will again be suspended there on October 21, 22, and 23 due to festivals.
