More than 80,000 people have been relocated
According to reports from Chinese state media and CNN, northern regions of Beijing have been experiencing continuous heavy rainfall for several days, which has worsened the situation. During this time, approximately 80,000 people have been relocated to safe places. Dozens of roads have been submerged in water, while electricity has been cut off in 136 villages.
Landslide incident in Hebei as well
The situation remains worrying in Hebei Province, which borders Beijing. On Monday, a landslide incident here resulted in the loss of 4 lives, and 8 people are still missing. The relief and rescue team is present at the scene and is continuously searching for the missing people.
Prime Minister Li Keqiang responds
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has described this disaster as one involving serious loss of life. He has instructed that relief operations be carried out rapidly in the affected areas and that all possible assistance be provided to the people.
President Xi Jinping gives strict orders
Chinese President Xi Jinping has also taken cognizance of this disaster and given clear instructions to the authorities. He has said that missing people should be searched for immediately, people should be settled safely and systematically in relief camps, and every possible effort should be made to minimize the death toll.
Emergency response initiated
The local administration in Beijing implemented an emergency response plan starting Monday night. Under this, people have been advised to stay indoors, all schools have been closed, construction work has been suspended, and all types of outdoor tourist activities have been postponed.
The road network has been severely affected due to rain and floods. Many main roads have heavy waterlogging, which has brought traffic to a standstill. Some bridges and underpasses have been completely submerged, which is also causing difficulties in the relief work.
Electricity and communication systems crippled
Electricity supply has been completely cut off in 136 villages in order to avoid any kind of accident. Mobile networks and communication services are also disrupted. The administration is trying to ensure that basic facilities like drinking water, food and medicines are delivered to the people as soon as possible.
