Political activity is intensifying on the Tarapur seat ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. Several prominent leaders from the JDU and RJD are vying for the ticket, engaging in a race to garner public support and conduct extensive tours.
Bihar Election 2025: Even before the announcement of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, politics has heated up in Tarapur, one of the state's prominent assembly constituencies. This seat is not only significant in terms of political history but has also been the launchpad for many prominent leaders. Currently, the seat belongs to the JDU, with Rajeev Kumar Singh as the MLA, who remains actively engaged in the constituency, promoting government schemes.
Multiple JDU Ticket Aspirants
Several faces are vying for the JDU ticket this time. While Rajeev Kumar Singh is again seeking the ticket, Engineer Rohit Choudhary and former police officer Rajesh Kushwaha are also preparing intensely. Rohit Choudhary enjoys b political connections. His father, Shakuni Choudhary, won the Tarapur seat six times and served as Bihar's Health Minister. His mother, the late Parvati Devi, also served as an MLA once, and his brother, Samrat Choudhary, is currently Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister.
Rohit Choudhary was in the running for the ticket in the previous by-election but was persuaded to join the JDU by Lalan Singh. This time, he has started campaigning vigorously, engaging directly with the public. Meanwhile, former police officer Rajesh Kushwaha is also seeking the ticket based on his administrative experience and local connections.
Multiple Contenders in RJD as well
It is almost certain that the RJD will contest this seat on behalf of the INDIA alliance. In the previous by-election, the RJD fielded Arun Sah, who put up a b fight but did not win. This time, Arun Sah is again active in the constituency, consistently seeking public support.
Other contenders for the RJD ticket include Divya Prakash, daughter of former Union Minister Jaiprakash Narayan Yadav. Jaiprakash Yadav is working to establish his daughter in politics. RJD leader Jitendra Kushwaha is also preparing for the election and constantly maintaining contact with the people.
Former Zilla Parishad member Sailesh Kumar, alias Mantu Yadav, is also striving for the ticket. The internal competition within the RJD appears intense, with all aspirants already active on the ground.
Why Tarapur Seat is Important
The Tarapur assembly seat holds a special place in Bihar's politics. The seat has frequently elected leaders who have significantly influenced the state's political landscape. From 1952 to the present, prominent parties like Congress, Socialist Party, Janata Party, Communist Party, Samata Party, RJD, and JDU have dominated this seat.
Shakuni Choudhary holds the record for winning the most elections from this seat, winning under different party banners: Independent, Congress, Samata Party, and RJD. Figures like Parvati Devi and Nita Choudhary have also been MLAs from this seat.
Focus on Nitish Government's Schemes
JDU MLA Rajeev Kumar Singh is constantly campaigning on the achievements of the Nitish government. He claims significant improvements in the areas of roads, electricity, education, and health in the constituency. He also asserts efforts are being made to deliver government schemes to the last person.
He further states that his continuous presence amongst the people throughout his tenure, not just during elections, is his best political foundation. However, there is also intense speculation about whether the JDU will give him another chance or field a new face.
