Bihar: Under the Chief Minister Women Employment Scheme, an amount of 10,000 rupees each has been transferred to the bank accounts of 10 lakh women in Bihar. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar sent approximately 1000 crore rupees directly to the beneficiaries' accounts through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer). This scheme was announced before the assembly elections, and the goal is now to strengthen women's small enterprises by providing them with financial assistance.

Women's Small Enterprises to be Strengthened

The amount disbursed under this scheme is intended to promote small businesses run by women. The state government believes that this financial support will play a crucial role in helping women start their own businesses or strengthen existing small enterprises. The establishment of Jeevika groups in rural and urban areas has brought about a significant change in the lives of women. Where many women previously spent their free time after household chores, they are now moving towards self-reliance through savings and economic activities.

Direct Benefit to Women Associated with Jeevika Groups

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar transferred the amount via DBT to the bank accounts of 9.50 lakh women in rural areas and 50 thousand women in urban areas who are associated with Jeevika groups. The government states that these women have brought about positive changes in their lives by adopting savings, collective work, and financial discipline. This scheme is considered a major step towards making women economically capable.

1.40 Crore Women Benefited So Far

Since the inception of the scheme, 10,000 rupees each has been sent to the bank accounts of 1.40 crore women. This figure indicates the broad scope of the scheme and the efforts being made to empower women financially across Bihar. However, the amount has not yet reached the accounts of a large number of eligible women, and the government is preparing to provide them with benefits in subsequent phases.

Social Impact of the Women Employment Scheme

The financial assistance received under this scheme has not only provided economic support to women but has also brought about social changes in their lives. Through Jeevika groups, women are now taking collective decisions, the habit of saving has given them financial security, and they have been inspired to start small-scale enterprises. The government states that this scheme has significantly increased women's confidence, and they are now playing a more active role in their families and society.

Increased Activity in Rural and Urban Women's Groups

The impact of Jeevika groups has been most profound in rural areas. Women associated with these groups are increasing their income through dairy, tailoring, handicrafts, groceries, farming, and other small businesses. Meanwhile, women in urban areas are venturing into beauty parlors, tiffin services, boutiques, home-based work, and other activities. The government believes that the Women Employment Scheme has given a new direction to women entrepreneurship in the state.
