The Election Commission is intensifying preparations for the Bihar Assembly Elections. The ECI team has arrived in Patna.
Bihar Election 2025: Political activity is ramping up in Bihar ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. The key question on everyone’s mind is when the Bihar election dates will be announced. Now, an important update has emerged. A nine-member team from the Election Commission (ECI) has arrived in Patna to review the preparations for the elections.
Assembly Term and Election Timing
The current term of the Bihar Assembly expires on November 22, 2025. Therefore, the election process needs to be completed before that date. Considering this, the Election Commission is accelerating its preparations. The commission’s team has begun meetings with senior state officials and is meticulously reviewing the electoral framework.
What are the Indications Regarding Date Announcements?
Based on the Election Commission’s working methods, indications suggest that the Bihar election dates could be announced in the first week of October. Typically, the commission announces the election schedule within a week of the final publication of the voter list.
Voter List Revision Begins
The Election Commission has clarified that a special intensive revision campaign will be conducted for the voter list. Under this, voters will be verified door-to-door. A draft of the voter list will be published on August 1st, and the final voter list will be published on September 30th. This timeline could prove decisive in determining the election dates.
Polling May Be Conducted in Multiple Phases
The Election Commission has already indicated that the Bihar Assembly elections will not be held in a single phase. Considering the state’s geographical and security complexities, the elections will be conducted in several phases. Based on past elections, it is estimated that voting could take place in 3 to 5 phases.
ECI Team’s Schedule
The ECI’s nine-member team is holding extensive meetings in Patna. The team will meet with officials from the State Election Commission, as well as District Magistrates (DMs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) from all districts. Discussions will focus on crucial issues such as security arrangements, booth management, identifying sensitive areas, and logistical support.
Elections May Be Held After छठ Puja
Sources suggest that this time, the Bihar Assembly elections could be held between October and November. There is a higher probability of voting being conducted after छठ Puja, which is of immense social and cultural significance in Bihar, making it a more practical time to initiate the electoral process.
Political Parties Intensify Preparations
Before the dates are announced, all major political parties have intensified their preparations. Both the NDA and the Mahagathbandhan have activated workers at the grassroots level. The BJP, JD(U), LJP (Ram Vilas) and HAM party are strategizing as part of the alliance. Meanwhile, RJD, Congress, and Left parties are focused on strengthening their bholds.
