Bihar Elections: UP Minister's 'Ravana' Remark Sparks Political Controversy

The political temperature is rising rapidly in Bihar ahead of the assembly elections. The opposition is trying to unite the public through the ‘Voter Rights Yatra’ by leveling allegations of vote rigging.

Ghazipur: The political atmosphere is heating up before the Bihar assembly elections. Amidst this, a statement by Uttar Pradesh Fisheries Minister and BJP ally Sanjay Nishad is in the news. Sanjay Nishad, who arrived in Ghazipur to meet flood victims, said that “Ravana” is also present in Bihar, and just as Lord Rama ended Ravana, one should stand against injustice. His statement has created a stir in Bihar’s politics.

Sanjay Nishad Made the Statement While Meeting Flood Victims

Addressing the workers after distributing relief materials to flood victims in Zamania, Ghazipur, Sanjay Nishad gave a message of uniting his community. He said, “We are the descendants of Nishad Raj, Lord Rama’s childhood friend. We need the strength of our feet (‘pauwa’) as well as ‘power’, and this power lies with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

Along with this, he said that earlier people used to call them ‘Kovatwa’ or ‘Bindwa’, but now everyone respects them by calling them ‘Nishad Raj’. Sanjay Nishad also said that the situation in Bihar today is the same as it was in Lanka during Ravana’s time, and one should fight injustice by following the path of Rama.

Political Heat Increases in Bihar Elections

Preparations for the elections are in full swing in Bihar. The opposition is continuously accusing the BJP and NDA of “vote rigging”. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav have launched a campaign to make the public aware through the “Voter Rights Yatra”. Rahul Gandhi claimed that the BJP had rigged votes in 70-80 seats in the Lok Sabha elections and is now trying the same in the assembly elections. Tejashwi Yadav said that the people of Bihar are vigilant and will not let any attempt at vote rigging succeed.

Sanjay Nishad’s statement has added fuel to this political environment. The opposition is calling it an insult to the people of Bihar, while NDA leaders say that this statement is an initiative to empower and unite the Nishad community.

Experts believe that Sanjay Nishad’s statement is part of an electoral strategy. The Nishad community is influential in many parts of North India and holds special importance in electoral calculations. In his speech, Sanjay Nishad linked this to religious and cultural identity, stating that the Nishad society needs not only economic but also political power.
