During a police investigation in the Banaulia neighborhood of Biharsharif, rioters launched an attack. One sub-inspector was injured in the incident, along with several other officers. The dispute arose over the possession of a private shop and a religious idol.
Biharsharif: Tension escalated in the Banaulia neighborhood of Biharsharif, Nalanda district, on Thursday (August 28), when a police team arrived to investigate a complaint filed by local woman Urmila Devi. She alleged that the lock of her private shop was broken and its contents looted. Suddenly, rioters began pelting stones at the police, resulting in injuries to police sub-inspector Pappu Kumar and minor injuries to several other officers.
The police made immediate efforts to bring the situation under control. Amidst the chaos, local residents started fleeing in different directions. Following the incident, an atmosphere of tension has gripped the area, but the administration, exercising utmost caution, has managed to control the situation.
Serious Allegation of Installing Idol After Breaking Shop Shutter
Urmila Devi stated in her application that some individuals, including Niraj Chaurasia and Umesh Gop from Banaulia, broke the shutter of her shop and removed the goods. Subsequently, the accused attempted to forcibly install an idol of Lord Ganesha there.
The woman asserted that the shop is her private property and has been used by her family for a long time. She informed the administration that her personal rights had been violated and such actions are unacceptable.
Shop Becomes Cause of Dispute Again
According to local sources, this dispute is not new. A week prior, a clash had occurred between both parties over the same shop, which the police had resolved through intervention. However, the same old dispute resurfaced on Thursday.
Local residents believe that the administration should have taken strict action earlier to control the dispute before it escalated. This time, the police had to show proactivity and a large police force was deployed at the scene.
Police Officer Gives Statement
DSP Nurul Haque stated, "A police team reached the spot to mediate between both parties and investigate the matter. During this time, some individuals became agitated and suddenly started pelting stones. According to the police, the riot was carried out in a planned manner. The officers somehow controlled the situation, and the matter is being investigated."
The police stated that inquiries are ongoing throughout the area to identify and apprehend the culprits. Those who take the law into their own hands will not be spared under any circumstances.
Security Increased in the Area
Following the incident, police forces have been deployed across the entire Banaulia neighborhood to maintain order. On the orders of the SDO, the Biharsharif CO has been directed to conduct an investigation. The police have begun identifying the rioters, and cases are being registered against them, both named and unnamed.
Local residents acknowledge that the situation is now under control due to the administration's prompt action but emphasize the need for stringent measures to prevent such disputes in the future.
