An encounter between security forces and Naxalites has been ongoing in the Gangaloor area of Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, since Monday. Two DRG jawans have been injured. Naxalites are also likely to have been injured.
Bijapur, Chhattisgarh: The encounter between security forces and Naxalites, which began on Monday in the Gangaloor area of Bijapur district in the Bastar division, continued on Tuesday. During this time, two personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) sustained minor injuries. Police suspect that several Naxalites were also injured in the operation.
Background of the Anti-Naxal Operation
The Gangaloor police station area has long been considered one of the sensitive areas for Naxal activities. On August 11, a DRG team was dispatched for a special anti-Naxal operation. The aim of this operation was to curb the activities of Maoists active in the area and restore security.
Beginning and Course of the Encounter
According to the police, as soon as the security forces reached the area on Tuesday morning, Maoists suddenly started firing indiscriminately. The security forces also responded to this attack, after which intermittent firing continued for several hours. The operation site is a dense forest and hilly area, which has affected the pace of the operation.
Condition of Injured Soldiers Stable
Two DRG jawans sustained injuries in the firing during the encounter. Police officers said that both soldiers are out of danger. After providing first aid in Gangaloor, they have been sent to Raipur for better treatment.
Naxalites Also Likely to Be Injured
Officials say that Naxalites have also suffered losses during the encounter. However, due to the dense forest and difficult terrain, this has not yet been officially confirmed. It is believed that the injured Naxalites have hidden inside the forest with the help of their comrades.
Operation Continues, Security Forces Provide Constant Updates
A joint team of police and paramilitary forces is still conducting search operations in the area. The area has been cordoned off, and Naxal activities are being monitored with drones and other technical means.
Continuous Operations in Naxal-Affected Areas
In recent days, security forces have also conducted several successful operations in other Naxal-affected districts of the Bastar division. Experts say that incidents like Bijapur show that Naxalites are still active in forest areas, but the pressure from security forces is increasing.
