BJP Reviews Election Performance in Varanasi Ahead of 2027 UP Polls

The BJP is holding a two-day training camp in Varanasi on October 14 and 15 with 266 office-bearers linked to 133 Assembly constituencies across the Kashi and Gorakh regions to review previous election results and prepare for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is holding a two-day training camp in Varanasi on October 14 and 15 as part of its preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The meeting brings together 266 office-bearers, in-charges and organisational expansion coordinators associated with 133 Assembly constituencies across the Kashi and Gorakh regions. The discussions focus on reviewing the party’s performance in previous elections, assessing its organisational position and preparing constituency-level strategies for the upcoming polls.

The camp is attended by BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santhosh, National General Secretary and Uttar Pradesh in-charge Vinod Tawde, and Uttar Pradesh General Secretary (Organisation) Dharampal Singh. Discussions are covering regional political conditions, organisational activity and the party’s position across Assembly constituencies.

The Samajwadi Party’s influence remains one of the factors being examined in eastern Uttar Pradesh. In the 2022 Assembly elections, the Samajwadi Party won all 10 Assembly seats in Azamgarh district. It also performed well in several other areas, including Ballia and Mau, making its role significant in the region’s political dynamics.

In the Gorakh region, the BJP won all Assembly seats in Gorakhpur, Deoria, Kushinagar and Sant Kabir Nagar districts. The party also won all five seats in Maharajganj district. However, election results varied across different districts in the region.

The BJP is assessing constituency-level positions based on these results, with attention to areas where the party did not achieve the expected electoral success.

The BJP lost several Lok Sabha seats in eastern Uttar Pradesh in the 2024 general elections. In the Varanasi region, the party’s vote share reportedly declined in Assembly segments such as Pindra, Ajagara and Shivpur. The party also failed to win some Lok Sabha seats, including Chandauli and Machhlishahr.

The BJP also faced electoral setbacks in areas such as Ghazipur, Jaunpur, Ghosi and Salempur. Reviewing the 2024 Lok Sabha results and the party’s performance at the local level is therefore among the subjects being examined at the Varanasi meeting.

The BJP’s regional allies, Apna Dal and the Nishad Party, also have political influence in several parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh. In previous elections, these parties recorded victories in areas including Mirzapur, Bhadohi, Jaunpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Maharajganj and Gorakhpur.

Preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections include coordination with alliance partners, the role of local leadership and organisational activity at the booth level. The Varanasi training camp forms part of the BJP’s organisational preparations ahead of the elections. The party will take forward its regional strategy based on the conclusions emerging from the meeting.
