Bihar Politics: Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has suffered a major setback after the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025. Anil Kumar, the BSP's Bihar state in-charge, has resigned from his post and primary party membership, citing personal reasons. His decision has caused a stir within the party.
Gratitude towards Party Leadership
In his resignation letter, Anil Kumar wrote that he is grateful for the affection, cooperation, and guidance received from the party leadership during his tenure. He clarified that his resignation was due to personal reasons and has no connection with the party's policies or electoral strategy.

A day before his resignation, a high-level review meeting of the BSP's performance in the Bihar elections was held at Maharaja Complex in Patna, with Anil Kumar present. Besides BSP supremo Mayawati's nephew and national coordinator Akash Anand, Rajya Sabha member Ramji Gautam and other senior leaders also attended this meeting.
Significance of Election Results for BSP
In the recently concluded Bihar Assembly elections, the BSP contested alone and won only one seat. BSP candidate Satish Yadav defeated the BJP candidate by a narrow margin of just 30 votes from the Ramgarh constituency in Kaimur district. This victory was considered extremely important for the party, as it demonstrated the BSP's activity and penetration in the electoral arena.
Fear of Losing the Sole MLA
Now, after Anil Kumar's resignation, the BSP fears losing its sole MLA. There is growing concern within the party that if the organizational crisis and the absence of leaders affect electoral victories, the party's position could weaken further.
During the Assembly elections in Bihar, the BSP had to contest alone. Due to the activeness of other major parties and their electoral strategies, the BSP achieved limited success. Now, the resignation of the state in-charge could lead to a lack of leadership in the organization and hinder strategic decision-making.
