The main accused in the BSP leader murder case, Mustafijul, was killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF), according to police. Police said the accused had earlier escaped from custody by allegedly jumping from a moving train while being taken as part of a judicial process. Multiple teams had been conducting continuous search operations to trace him.
According to the STF, efforts were made to apprehend the absconding accused after his location was identified. During the operation, an encounter allegedly took place, and the accused was injured in retaliatory action. Police said he sustained two bullet injuries.
Police stated that Mustafijul was taken to a hospital after the encounter, where doctors declared him dead.
According to police, Mustafijul was accused of involvement in the murder of a BSP leader and other serious criminal cases. Police claimed he had been wanted for a long time and that cases under various sections had been registered against him. However, the final determination of these allegations is subject to the legal process before the court.
Following the encounter, the scene was inspected and the forensic team collected necessary evidence. Police said the weapon and other materials recovered from the spot have been sent for examination. The entire incident will also be investigated through departmental and legal procedures.
Security has been increased in the concerned area following the incident. Police officials said other aspects related to the case are also under investigation and that action will be taken against any other person if their involvement is established in accordance with the law.
