Bulandshahr: A horrific road accident in the Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh late Saturday night has shattered the happiness of several families. On National Highway (NH-34), a speeding container truck rear-ended a tractor-trailer carrying devotees. The accident resulted in the immediate death of eight people, while approximately 45 devotees were seriously injured. Many of the injured include children and women.
Local residents say the accident was so terrible that the tractor-trailer overturned on the side of the road after the collision, trapping the devotees underneath. Hearing the screams, villagers and passersby rushed to help and informed the police.
How did the accident happen?
This tragic incident occurred near Ghatal village on the Aligarh border, within the Bulandshahr police station area. According to the police, the tractor-trailer was carrying approximately 60-61 devotees. They were traveling from Kasganj to the famous Gogamedi fair in Rajasthan for pilgrimage. As the tractor reached near Ghatal village on NH-34, a speeding container truck coming from behind collided with it forcefully.
The impact was so severe that the tractor overturned on the side of the road. After the accident, the devotees were scattered everywhere, and many were trapped under the trailer. The incident caused chaos in the entire area, and hundreds of people gathered to help.
Police launched a rescue operation
Upon receiving information about the accident, Bulandshahr police reached the spot and immediately launched a rescue operation. With the help of ambulances, all the injured were admitted to nearby hospitals and the district hospital.
Bulandshahr SSP (Senior Superintendent of Police) Dinesh Kumar Singh said that the accident occurred around 2:15 AM. He stated, "Approximately 60 people were traveling in a tractor-trailer. The tractor overturned after being hit by a container truck. The police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination, and the injured are receiving treatment. The truck has been seized, and its driver has been arrested."
Condition of those injured in the accident is serious
Approximately 45 devotees injured in this accident are undergoing treatment in different hospitals. According to doctors, the condition of three injured individuals is very critical, and they have been placed on ventilators. The remaining injured have sustained bone fractures and head injuries.
The hospital administration stated that a special team of doctors and nurses has been formed for the treatment of the injured. The district administration has also issued instructions to provide immediate relief. Furthermore, the process of providing compensation to the families of the deceased is being initiated.
A pall of gloom in the village due to the accident
This accident has not only deeply saddened the families of the injured but the entire region. A pall of gloom has descended upon the villages of the devotees who had set out for the Gogamedi pilgrimage. Family members are distraught, weeping outside hospitals and the post-mortem house.
Local residents have demanded that the administration take concrete steps regarding road safety so that such incidents do not recur. People said that the speeding of trucks and containers is causing accidents every day.
