The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sought information from the Muzaffarpur district administration on the current status of justice, compensation and rehabilitation measures for victims in the Muzaffarpur shelter home case. The agency has requested a detailed report from the District Magistrate (DM).

According to preliminary information, compensation has so far been provided to 49 victims as per the prescribed provisions. The CBI has also sought details on the progress of rehabilitation, education, security and government assistance for the remaining victims. Further review and action will be based on the report.

The case has remained one of the country's most prominent sensitive cases and has been under the scrutiny of various courts and investigating agencies for several years. The CBI is now seeking to ascertain whether the victims have received the benefits of rehabilitation and government assistance alongside the judicial process in a timely manner.

The report sought from the district administration is expected to include detailed information on compensation provided to the victims, rehabilitation programmes, education, medical facilities, security arrangements and other forms of government assistance. It is also expected to examine the extent to which directions issued by the courts and the concerned authorities have been implemented.

Legal experts have said that in such cases, securing convictions alone is not sufficient, and that proper rehabilitation, mental health support, education and social reintegration of victims are considered important components of the justice process.

Social workers have also stated that periodic reviews of rehabilitation programmes are necessary in sensitive cases to ensure that victims are receiving all rights and benefits available to them under the law.

Administrative authorities are currently preparing the report. After it is submitted to the CBI, further action may be taken in accordance with the applicable rules if any shortcomings or lapses are identified.

At present, the purpose of the report sought by the CBI is to assess whether the victims in the Muzaffarpur shelter home case have effectively received all entitlements related to justice, compensation and rehabilitation. The final position will become clear after the status report is submitted and subsequent official action is taken.
