Congress Leader P. Chidambaram Questions Role of Domestic Terrorists in Pahalgam Attack; Demands Proof of Terrorists Coming from Pakistan. BJP Accuses Congress of Giving Clean Chit to Pakistan.
P Chidambaram Statement: Ahead of the proposed discussion in the Lok Sabha on the Pahalgam terrorist attack and Operation Sindoor, a statement by Congress leader and former Home Minister P. Chidambaram has stirred up a political storm. In an interview, Chidambaram said that domestic terrorists may have been involved in the attack, and he questioned whether there was any concrete evidence that the attackers came from Pakistan.
BJP Launches Sharp Attack
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a sharp attack on P. Chidambaram's statement. BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya shared a video of Chidambaram, saying that it is an old habit of the Congress to defend Pakistan whenever questions are raised about it. He wrote that this is the same Chidambaram who coined the concept of "saffron terror" and is now once again giving a clean chit to Pakistan.
'No Proof Terrorists Came from Pakistan'
In his interview, P. Chidambaram said, "Have the terrorists been identified? Has it been confirmed that they came from Pakistan? It is possible that they are local terrorists. There is no proof that they came from Pakistan." He also alleged that the central government and investigative agencies are hiding facts related to the attack from the public.
Congress' Ambiguity on National Security: BJP
Amit Malviya alleged that whenever the Congress speaks on matters related to national security, its position remains ambiguous. He said that every time India is attacked by Pakistan-sponsored terrorism, Congress leaders appear to be siding with Islamabad. This is not only unfortunate but also dangerous from the point of view of national security.
Congress Distances Itself
Seeing the controversy deepen over Chidambaram's statement, the Congress party has distanced itself from him. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said in a media interaction that Chidambaram himself can give a better clarification on this statement and that it is not the official stance of the party. This reaction makes it clear that the Congress party is also uncomfortable with Chidambaram's statement.
